How To Care For Your Newly Hydroseeded Lawn
Watering:
Begin watering the hydroseeded area the day after application.
During the first 2 weeks watering 2-3 times a day is recommended and more if it is very hot or windy. Short & frequent watering will ensure the mulch stays damp without pooling in areas. Good water times are 10 AM, 1 PM & 4 PM (5-7 min per zone).
Avoid watering at night due to the increased chance of fungi & disease. A sprinkler timer is highly recommended to help ensure proper watering & protect your investment.
Watering can be reduced to fewer, longer sessions during the 3rd & 4th week (1-2 times a day 7-10 minutes per zone).
Fertilizer Application:
Approximately four to six weeks after hydroseeding, apply a balanced fertilizer specifically formulated for your lawn. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application rates and timing. Reach out to your hydroseeding professional for which fertilizer to use on your yard.
Mowing:
Once the grass reaches a height of 2 to 3 inches, it is ready for its first mowing. Avoid setting the mower blades too low to avoid scalping. Regular mowing promotes healthy growth and helps maintain an attractive appearance.
Weed Control:
Monitor the hydroseeded area for weeds and promptly remove any that appear. Avoid using herbicides until the grass is well-established, as young grass may be sensitive to chemicals. Hand pulling or spot treatment with a selective herbicide is recommended for weed control.
